PAT KELMAN

I’m Pat Kelman, a lifelong lover of cinema with a varied and exciting background in acting, filmmaking, photography, and film distribution. Born Patrick Kelly in Chelmsford, Essex, I grew up from infancy amidst the breathtaking scenery of Cornwall, where I now live after twenty vibrant years in London.

HOW I GOT HERE

Acting Career

My love for storytelling began on the stage and screen. I made my on-screen acting debut in the 1997 television miniseries “The Odyssey,” playing Elatus. Since then, I’ve appeared in a range of productions, including the horror gem “Lighthouse”, “The Bill”, and the much-loved BBC sitcom “My Hero.” Each role has deepened my appreciation for the craft and brought me closer to the world of cinema.

Filmmaking

In 2003 (festival & DVD release 2005), I stepped behind the camera to write and direct my first feature film, “Encounters.” This project was a labour of love and earned accolades at the ReelHeART International Film Festival in Toronto and the Cheap Shot L.A. International Film Festival. Creating “Encounters” ignited a passion for directing that led to more projects, including the award-winning short films “Pianissimo” and “Francis.”

Photography

In 2013, I launched a photography business, specializing in wedding and portrait photography. This venture allowed me to blend my visual storytelling skills with my passion for capturing life’s special moments. Each photograph tells a story, much like the films I create.

606 Distribution

In 2018, I co-founded 606 Distribution with my colleague David Maddison. Our mission is to bring independent and arthouse films to audiences, focusing on works that are often overlooked by mainstream distributors. We’ve proudly released films like “Polina” and “Hannah,” supporting the creators of these unique, and oft-neglected cinematic gems.

Pat’s Film Club

Pat’s Film Club is where my passion for cinema comes to life. Here, at the WTW Plaza Cinema in Truro, I curate a diverse selection of films, from timeless classics to thrilling double bills. Our screenings are more than just movie nights; they are experiences designed to celebrate the magic of cinema.

One of our most exciting events has been the special screenings of the cult classic “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.” With this celebration of the film’s 50th Anniversary, we were able to spread out from just our home venue, playing in nine separate cinemas over one weekend.

These nights were a true celebration of horror cinema, complete with insightful programme notes about the film’s impact, an introduction from star Teri McMinn, and lots of lively discussions in the foyer and pub afterwards.

I hope these events will become a must-attend for horror fans, creating unforgettable memories and a shared love for the genre.

Personal Philosophy

My career is driven by a deep investment in people and a boundless love for cinema. From my early days captivated by horror films to my admiration for filmmakers like Mike Leigh and Atom Egoyan, my journey is fueled by a passion for storytelling.

When I watch/select/acquire a film, the key thing I’m looking for is a sense of authenticity. Do I resonate with the film, on an emotional/spiritual/gut level? Do I believe what I’m watching/what the actor is doing/what the director is doing? That doesn’t mean I’m looking for naturalism – even the most extreme choices can be truthful and honest.

I believe in nurturing filmmakers and audiences alike, and I approach every project with enthusiasm and dedication to the art of cinema.

Thank you for visiting Pat’s Film Club.

I can’t wait to share my love for film with you and create unforgettable cinematic experiences together.
