Alien / Aliens Double Bill

Sunday April 23rd

An Ultra-Rare chance to see the ultimate sci-fi action-horror double bill on the big screen!

One of the benefits of working in the film industry is that sometimes I get to see a film a long time before its release and without any hype.

AFTERSUN was one of those. I was at the Cannes Film Festival last May, and I saw it in a very small screening room with a group of Film Buyers from around the world.
I knew nothing about it apart from some good word of mouth around Cannes – I didn’t even know who was in it, or what it was about.

By the end, I was convinced I’d seen my favourite film of 2022.

By the end of December, I knew I was right.

Athough it has already had an outing at last November’s Cornwall Film Festival, I was surprised it wasn’t shown more widely around Cornwall, so I thought this was a perfect opportunity.

AFTERSUN

At a fading vacation resort, 11-year-old Sophie treasures rare time together with her loving and idealistic father, Calum. Twenty years later, Sophie’s tender recollections of their last holiday become a powerful and heartrending portrait of their relationship.

It’s very rare to see a first feature from a new director that is so fully, maturely realised.

Centred around two phenomenal performances (Oscar-nominated Paul Mescal and newcomer Frankie Corio, this is a subtle and moving drama about loss, innocence and connnection.

I don’t want to go into it too much, but it genuinely broke me – in the healing way that great films can.
I can’t wait to share it with you.

It’s not just a wrenching family drama but a fascinating meditation on memory, the poignant dance between past and present, and the experience of looking back on childhood with the perspective of an adult, seeing things we didn’t notice before.”
